Northwestern State sophomore Chloe Donnell hit 14 three-pointers and scored 46 points Monday, tying the NCAA single-game record.

By the numbers: Donnell scored 46 points in Northwestern State's 120-40 win over Ecclesia, making an NCAA record-tying 14 three-pointers. Her previous college career high was four points.

  • The Demons also set school records with 20 made three-pointers, an 80-point victory margin and 35 points in a single quarter.
  • Donnell scored 20 in the first half and 17 in the third quarter, when she shot 6-for-8 overall and 4-for-5 from deep.

What they're saying: "I knew I was hitting, but I didn't realize it was that many until the fourth quarter," Donnell said after the game.

The backstory: Donnell transferred from South Alabama before this season. Her 46 points rank third in program history and are the most by a Northwestern State player since Pam Hudson scored 48 in 1990.

The big picture: First-year head coach Alan Frey earned his first career victory, but the reserve guard's shooting took over the opener. Every Northwestern State player who entered the game scored at least once.

What's next: The schedule tightens immediately: Northwestern State begins a three-game road trip Friday at Arkansas, followed by Oklahoma State on Nov. 9 and Louisiana Tech on Nov. 12.

Why it matters: The leap from a four-point career high to an NCAA record is the kind of opener that changes scouting reports overnight. Donnell now faces major-conference defenses built specifically to stop her shot.
