Anthropic launched Claude Frontier Academy on Friday, a $100 million program to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027.

The big picture: Anthropic says the hardest input in enterprise AI is people, so it is building the training itself. Cohorts are running in San Francisco, New York and London, with Capgemini and Commonwealth Bank of Australia also in the first intake.

Zoom in: The Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency follows a medical model. Engineers start with a multi-day in-person program and a graded practical, then lead a real Claude deployment at their own employer for 12 weeks before a final assessment.

  • Candidates are nominated by their organization and arrive with a named Claude project to lead. The first Frontier Deployed Engineer badges are expected in early 2027.

What they're saying: "A small team of high-agency people with the right skills, access to Claude, and a deep understanding of how their business runs can transform an entire company," said Steve Corfield, Anthropic's global head of business development and partnerships.

By the numbers: Anthropic says professionals across 46,000 firms have earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications, while nearly 4,000 have finished Basecamp, the deeper course its own applied AI teams take when they onboard.

  • Commonwealth Bank of Australia said its teams have produced up to three times more code changes in the past year using AI tools.

Why it matters: Enterprises have spent two years running AI pilots that stall before production, and the bottleneck is people who can carry a deployment from use case through security review to handover. A model vendor training its customers staff is a bet that adoption, rather than raw capability, now decides the winner.
