1% Better FAQ
Quick answers about the newsletter: when it arrives, what it costs and how to manage your subscription.
What is 1% Better?
A free email newsletter that arrives every morning with the day's important news in short summaries and one practical idea for your health, money, work or relationships. Weekday editions take about five minutes to read. Read the full explanation.
Is 1% Better free?
Yes. It is paid for by sponsors. Sponsored sections are labeled "Together with" so they are easy to tell apart from the editorial.
How often is 1% Better sent?
Every day. Monday to Friday you get the news edition. Saturday brings Editor's Picks, the best ideas and reads from the week. Sunday brings a Deep Dive on one topic.
What time does it arrive?
Early in the morning, US Eastern time. Editions usually go out before 8 a.m. Eastern.
How long does it take to read?
About five minutes for a weekday edition. Stories are kept to a few short paragraphs, and each one links to the full reporting if you want more.
What topics does it cover?
The top news story of the day, business and markets, science and culture, and one practical idea: exercise routines, sleep, recipes, money habits, work and relationships.
Where does the life advice come from?
From research papers, books and long-form interviews. When an idea rests on a study, we name the study and say what it found and what it did not.
Does 1% Better take political sides?
We aim to report what happened in plain language, attribute claims to the people who made them, and link to the original reporting so you can judge for yourself. If you think we missed the mark, email kaizen@b-e-t-t-e-r.com.
Can I read past issues?
Yes. Every edition is in the newsletter archive, and the newest one is always at the latest issue page.
How do I subscribe?
Go to the subscribe page and sign up with your email. It takes a few seconds and costs nothing.
How do I unsubscribe?
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click removes you; there is nothing to log in to.
I signed up but cannot find the email. What should I do?
Search your inbox for "1% Better" and check the Promotions and Spam folders. Moving one email to your main inbox, or replying to it, usually keeps the next ones there.
What are the 1% Better podcast notes?
Free written notes on more than 2,000 episodes of popular health, business and personal development podcasts, each with the main ideas and a link to the original show. Start at podcast notes or the curated lists on Learn.
Why is it called 1% Better?
After kaizen, the practice of continuous small improvement. Getting 1% better each day, compounded over a year, works out to about 37.8 times better on paper. Real progress is messier, but small habits you keep do add up.
How do I report a mistake or contact the team?
Email kaizen@b-e-t-t-e-r.com, or reply to any edition. Replies go to the same inbox.
How can my company sponsor 1% Better?
See the advertise page for formats and how to get in touch.
