24-Year High

The 10-year Treasury yield climbed above 5.35% Wednesday, its highest level since 2002, and the 30-year bond hit 5.70%. Stocks slipped as Fed minutes showed most officials expect another rate hike before year-end.

Energy costs tied to the Iran conflict and a projected $1.9 trillion deficit are pushing yields up. Households now expect 3.9% inflation over the next year, the most since May 2023, with food prices leading at 5.3%.

The 10-year sets the pace for mortgages, which averaged 7.28% last week, up from 6.34% a year ago. Each quarter-point Fed hike adds about $250 a year per $100,000 on variable-rate loans like HELOCs.

377 Proofs

OpenAI released 377 new math results this week , all produced by an unreleased AI model. The drop comes a month after the company said its AI solved one of math's seven $1 million Millennium Prize Problems.

That earlier proof took roughly 10,000 AI agents about 88 hours and ran 165 pages. This week's results averaged about three hours each, and three touch on Millennium Prize Problems that remain unsolved.

Mathematicians are pushing back. Leading groups want OpenAI to stop testing on unreleased models, warning it threatens peer review, and a Harvard mathematician on OpenAI's own advisory board warns AI output often borrows from human work without proper credit. Tesla: 9-Year Wait

Tesla will finally reveal its new Roadster on Oct. 15 in Waco, Texas, nearly nine years after first showing it off. Buyers have waited since 2017 with deposits of at least $50,000, and some paid $250,000.

Elon Musk has promised zero to 60 in under one second, faster than a Formula One car, and even floated SpaceX thrusters. One $250,000 depositor says his current Tesla already makes him nauseous at full throttle.

Production was first promised for 2020. Musk says the Roadster will be the last Tesla built for human drivers, and a former company president says a pricey, low-volume supercar could boost cash flow, Ferrari-style. Why one canceled order still cost $5,000 .

The Reverse Bucket List

At 40, happiness researcher Arthur C. Brooks wrote a bucket list. By 50, he'd checked off every item, and he was less happy than he'd been a decade earlier.

His fix runs the other way. Satisfaction, he says, is your haves divided by your wants. Having more raises it for a while. Wanting less raises it for good.

  • Write down your wants. On your birthday, list the money, status and things you're craving.
  • Cross them off. You don't stop pursuing them. You just loosen your grip on them.
  • Make it conscious. Moving a craving from autopilot onto paper is what weakens it.

The goal isn't to want nothing. It's to want on purpose.

Train Like Jason Statham

Jason Statham doesn't train like a bodybuilder. Before acting, he dove competitively for England , and his longtime trainer, former Navy SEAL Logan Hood, built his workouts around athleticism, not size. What's worth stealing:

  • Bodyweight first. Pull-ups, push-ups, rope climbs and explosive moves. In his words, it's about "just using your body weight and getting through the pain."
  • Keep it short. Sessions run about 30 to 40 minutes, and the workout rarely repeats.
  • Row hard. One Hood classic: six 500-meter sprints on a rowing machine, with three minutes of easy rowing between each.
  • Try the "Big 5 55." Five lifts, done for 10 reps, then 9, then 8, down to 1. That's 55 reps of each.
  • Play something. Boxing, martial arts, any sport that makes you move.
