Oil Tops $100
Brent crude settled at $101.21 a barrel yesterday, its highest close since May , after American forces struck five Iranian oil tankers and Tehran answered with strikes on U.S. ships, tankers and a base in Jordan.
Gasoline averages $4.22 a gallon , a dollar more than last year. Diesel set a record at $5.94, and diesel is what moves the trucks, trains and tractors carrying nearly every item in a grocery store.
Consumer price data lands Friday, days before the Federal Reserve meets. The average 30-year mortgage already sits at 6.85%, its highest in fourteen months, and rate locks signed before the release carry today's pricing.
The move: lock your mortgage rate before Friday's 8:30am inflation print, not after | 30-year fixed just hit 6.85%
Silicon Valley Movies
Four films about Silicon Valley executives all carry October release dates, and three released teaser trailers within a 48-hour window this week. The subjects are Mark Zuckerberg , Elon Musk , Sam Altman and Elizabeth Holmes .
The Musk documentary runs 232 minutes. The Holmes documentary runs 174. Both open the same day, October 16, which means a completist would spend nearly seven hours in a theater watching two founders explain themselves.
The dramas arrive first . A Social Network sequel with Jeremy Strong opens October 9, and Andrew Garfield plays Altman in a film premiering October 5. Neither has screened. Both documentaries hold perfect critic scores. The teaser that unnerved Telluride .
Southernmost Dinosaur Eggs
Researchers have identified 255 fossilized eggshell fragments from southern Argentina as titanosaur eggs, the southernmost dinosaur eggs ever confirmed. The 68-million-year-old clutches , dug up in 2020 and 2024, were described in findings published this week.
Titanosaurs ( video ) were too heavy to sit on a nest without crushing it, so they likely buried clutches in mounds of soil and rotting vegetation the size of a picnic table, letting decay supply the heat. What else lived at this dig site?
The site sat between 55 and 60 degrees south at the time, near Antarctica's latitude. Adults reached 75,000 kilograms, eight times a T. rex, yet hatchlings emerged weighing about nine pounds. Modern crocodiles still nest this way .

Don’t Leave $800 on the Table
Four people, four phones, and at least two of them still carry a balance owed to a carrier you stopped liking three years ago. That balance is the reason nobody switches. It feels like a fee for leaving.
T-Mobile pays it . Switch and trade up to four lines and you can get up to $800 per line to pay off the old phones, delivered as a virtual prepaid card. On the iPhone 18 Pro, the trade-in can be a phone in any condition.
Pre-orders open September 12, and the iPhone 18 Pro offer runs on the Experience Beyond plan. Requires a new device, qualifying credit and service, and an eligible trade-in.
See what T-Mobile will pay off.

Are you hunting mice or antelope?
Tim Ferriss lifted this from two political operatives describing a rival they disagreed with on everything else. Everything but this:
A lion can catch a field mouse. Catching it burns more calories than the mouse contains. Spend the day on mice and the lion starves with a full stomach. Antelope are harder. They take speed, patience, and a real chance of coming home with nothing. One feeds the entire pride for days.
Most of your day is mice. The inbox. The invoice. The tweak nobody asked for. Each closes with a small hit of progress, which is exactly what makes them dangerous.
Tonight, ask: did I chase mice today, or hunt antelope? Then pick tomorrow's antelope before bed. One thing. The hard one. Hunt that which sustains you.
