Oura Pauses IPO
The smart ring maker Oura postponed its Nasdaq listing yesterday, hours before shares were set to price. The company said demand was strong but the IPO market was too uncertain, and gave no new date.
The offering would have raised up to $2.2 billion and valued Oura near $15 billion. Most of the shares on offer, 36.5 million of 50 million, were being sold by existing investors rather than the company ( best smart rings of 2026 ).
Oura says business is fine: 5.7 million paying members, up from 5 million in June, and revenue expected to grow 90% this year. It's the third large IPO postponed or withdrawn in three weeks. Where the $2.2 billion would have gone .
Wrong About ADHD
A psychiatrist argued this week that attention deficit may be the wrong name for ADHD . The core difficulty, he writes, is staying engaged with a task over time, not filtering out distractions in the moment.
A large study published last December supports the idea. Researchers scanned nearly 12,000 children and found that stimulants changed brain networks tied to alertness and reward, while the attention networks showed no detectable change ( ADHD from 1997 to 2018, chart ).
The practical read: the drugs appear to make dull tasks register as more worth doing, rather than sharpening focus directly. That may also explain why people who struggle with lateness, boredom and frustration go undiagnosed, since none of it sounds like attention. The study behind the argument .
Alien Aurora?
Astronomers picked up radio bursts coming from a planet 63 light-years away, the first time such a signal has been traced to a world outside our solar system rather than its star.
The bursts point to an aurora, which means a magnetic field. Earth's runs about 0.5 gauss and Jupiter's reaches 14. This planet's measures at least 1,250, making it the first magnetic field ever measured on another planet.
Magnetic fields shield atmospheres from being stripped away, which is part of why Earth can hold onto life. The planet itself is a gas giant with no surface, but the technique could eventually be pointed at smaller worlds. The researchers' paper .
